Waltzing Where?! A Site-Specific Camp

Service Description

Do you love dancing so much that you find yourself dancing in random places? Like at the grocery store? On the playground? In a fountain?! In this camp we explore the world through dance, creating movements that can't be done without a hill, or a merry-go-round, or the dust of a baseball diamond! Using the principles of time, shape, space, and movement quality, we will create 5 different dances in 5 different spaces, with students making movement together and on their own. We will tap into various genres like ballet, tap, jazz, and contemporary to create, film, and perform our pieces. The visual art element of this camp will come from the places we've danced as well, both decorating the space (with natural materials) and gathering supplies found there to create mixed media pieces! Each student will also get a chance to record the others, deciding which body parts to highlight, which angles to best show off the movement, and what should be in the frame. Devices for recording will be provided, but you're welcome to bring your own. This camp will end with an informal performance that moves through the park, sprinkled with students' visual art and technological offerings. Bring your walking shoes, parents! This camp is going places!
